Crowdfunding, Partnerships and Turning an Idea into Reality

Today’s guest is Kayleigh Benoit, founder of fashion athleisure brand BIND London, which offers culturally inclusive headwear to make sports and fitness more accessible for Black women and women of colour.

According to Sport England, 40% of women say they are put off by exercise altogether because of fear of judgement and 45% of Black women avoid exercise because of their hair. Kayleigh is on a mission to change that.

Despite trying to raise money during a global pandemic, Kayleigh’s Natwest Back Her Business crowdfund campaign was successful and she raised £10,500 with 225 supporters in 35 days.

Kayleigh tells us: “if you have an idea, don’t sit on it for too long. Bring it to fruition as soon as possible… don’t let dust settle on it.”

This conversation was recorded on 17th June 2020.

This episode of Women On Top is brought to you by Estrid, the Scandanavian razor brand designed by women for women.

Hair removal should be optional, but great hair removal shouldn’t. Estrid’s vegan razor is specifically designed for those of us who believe that the hair removal process should be a pain-free affair on the skin, the wallet and also for the planet.

Over the next six weeks, I’ll be sharing with you little nuggets of Estrid’s story, how it is a socially conscious beauty business that doesn’t compromise on design or functionality, but still takes its social responsibility seriously as a modern business.

So if you’re looking for an affordable and dare I say it - enjoyable - alternative to your current razor, check out Estrid and be sure to use the code ‘WOM’ to donate an extra £1 to the Fawcett Society.

Thanks very much to Estrid.
